Teacher's Night - Fundraiser for Schools

Tuesday, October 17.
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Teacher's Night at McDonalds.
Teachers from local schools will be volunteering to work at McDonalds during these hours, and proceeds from the sales go to the schools.

Wise McDonalds: Wise Primary School
Walmart McDonalds: Norton
Big Stone Gap McDonalds: Powell Valley Primary
Clintwood McDonalds: Clintwood
Duffield - not sure which school but they have 22 teachers participating!

For those of you who like to eat at McDonalds, try to visit these stores tomorrow evening!
You'll shoot your eye out.

I was at Walmart briefly and it was hopping.
I was wrong about that store.. apparently WalMart in Norton benefits Appalachia, not Norton as I originally thought.

Did anybody get to give any teachers grief
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

From what I hear there was no time for much other than work.I heard they were very busy at the Wise McDonalds. And some of the teachers had a really good time and wasn't ready to go at 8:00 as planed with the exception of 1 or 2 teachers.haha My son said that some of the teachers enjoyed doing the job.And had a great time.

Re: Teacher's Night - Fundraiser for Schools

Well I dont see the government giving the money that schools need for extras.
Example: my nephew's class is going on a field trip soon, and because of lack of funds, the parents have to chip in to help offset the gas cost.

At least this is new and different. It doesn't require people to buy crap like wrapping paper and candles. If folks were already going to McD's they're already participating in the fundraiser with no extra out of pocket. You dont have any kids knocking on your door begging you to buy stuff from their school.

They're guaranteed a minimum of $500 per school (or 30% of the profits, whichever is greater).
You'll shoot your eye out.

I think it is very commendable that this is happening.
What upsets me is that all of these extracurricular activities have to be funded thru fund raisers, etc. Doesn't matter if it is band instruments, uniforms, etc, etc, etc, if the schools are going to have these things then the school board needs to fund it. It is becoming more and more a burden on the teachers and parents to be able to do these things.

Re: Teacher's Night - Fundraiser for Schools

A lot of teachers, especially in the kindergarten - 1st grade range, buy classroom supplies out of their own pocket. Some student families can't afford the necessary supplies and the school doesn't have the money to even provide crayons and construction paper.

When I was in high school the band had to sell everything from oranges to vidalia onions to earn uniforms, instruments, gas & driver money (the band doesn't even get a bus provided to ball games - they have to pay for it all).
